Yes! A one day trial diving experience known as Discover Scuba will let you experience the under water world with a professional PADI Dive Instructor guiding you through every step.
If you enjoy your Discover Scuba Dive, or know that you want to learn to dive, we can teach you your PADI Open Water Diver certification here at Dive North.
What is the temperature?
During summer the water is 18-22 degrees celsius and winter drops to around 14. We wear 7mm wetsuits, with hoods and gloves keeping us comfortable at all times and have a nice hot drink ready when you’re back on board.
What level diver do I need to be to dive the Rainbow Warrior or HMNZS Canterbury?
The average depth on the Rainbow Warrior and HMNZS Canterbury is below 18m, it is recommended that you are at least an Advanced Open Water diver or have 15 dives or more and have dived within the last six months.
If you have less then 15 dives or haven’t dived in a while, a Deep Adventure Dive is the best way to enable you to dive either of the wrecks. This involves some training from the PADI Adventures in Diving manual and will count towards your Advanced Open Water Diver Certification.
If I am not able to dive the Rainbow Warrior or Canterbury, can I still dive that day?
Yes! If you are not experienced enough to dive the Rainbow Warrior or Canterbury, or just don’t want to dive a wreck, we are flexible enough to tailor the trip so that you are able to dive one of the other beautiful locations around the Cavalli Islands or Bay of Islands.
What do I need to bring?
Bring a towel, a warm jacket and your certification card or log book. Don’t forget your smile!
What about lunch?
We offer a great value lunch of freshly made rolls (either ham, cheese, chicken or free range egg) with salad, home made lemon cake, potato chips and drinks – all for $10! Hot drinks and cookies are available throughout the day too.
I’m a vegetarian, do I need to bring my own lunch?
No! Vegetarian or allergies just let us know in advance of your needs and we will cater for you.
I’m catching a bus after the trip, what time do we get back?
We aim to be back by 3:30pm but if you have a schedule to keep please let us know in the morning so we can ensure we meet your needs.
Where can I stay?
The Bay of Islands has many great places to stay, so whether you would like a hostel, back packers, bed and breakfast or great motel, just ask us and we’ll be happy to make some recommendations.
Don’t forget we also have Dive and Stay packages at special rates and Dive and Park packages if you’re in a campervan.
Is it worth coming to the Bay of Islands?
Most definitely! The Bay of Islands has so much to offer. In between the diving there are many great things you can do – check out our ‘Activities’ information on the Dive and Stay page.
